Life Lessons from Baby Chicks

Be merciful to me O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storm of destruction passes. Ps. 57:1

As I was taking care of my new chicks today I began to think of how God, through Christ by His Word and Sacraments cares for us. With many churches closing during this time we may really come to a better understanding of the value in the Divine Service. It is there that we confess and are Absolved of our sins. There Christ feeds us through His Word and His Body and Blood. As they hymn says, Jeaus, Priceless Treasure.

As I bring the chicks food and drink to sustain their life, giving them the nutrients they need to grow strong, so too we are fed by God Himself who died and rose for us. So tenderly I pick each one up and speak softly to them. God speaks to us through His Written Word as well, strengthening us in the inner man.

These baby chicks sleep soundly because they are protected. So too, Chris tut protects our souls. As Martin Luther said, This body they may kill, God's truth abideth still

On earth is not His equal. We too may rest secure knowing He bought us with His precious blood and keeps us safe for ever.

During any challenging time we may rest assured that we abide under the Wings of the Almighty and we need not fear. What a great time to share that assurance and confidence with those who do not yet know of His love.
